Cyanotype is an alternative photographic process that uses light-sensitive chemistry to create images on paper and other surfaces. Traditionally, the image is created from a photographic negative. In our workshops, you can explore this classic photographic approach or take the process in a completely different direction with wet cyanotype.
Traditional Cyanotype
In a traditional cyanotype workshop, you work from a photograph. Your digital image is prepared as a negative and used to create a photographic cyanotype print.
This approach gives you more control over the image and allows you to transform your own photographs into cyanotype artwork.
Wet Cyanotype
Wet cyanotype works differently.
Instead of using a photographic negative, you work directly with plants, flowers and natural materials while the cyanotype chemistry is wet. Light, moisture, chemistry and the natural shapes of the plants interact during exposure, creating layered textures, colour variations and unpredictable photographic effects.
The result is less about reproducing an existing photograph and more about discovering what happens through the process itself.

About Wet Cyanotype
Wet cyanotype takes this historic photographic technique in a more experimental direction.
Rather than creating an image from a prepared negative, we work directly with natural materials and allow the chemistry, light and exposure process to interact.
Plants and flowers become part of the image-making process. Their shapes, textures and moisture can affect the chemistry and create patterns, layers and colour variations that cannot be completely predicted.
Every print becomes a unique artwork.
The aim is not to reproduce an identical image each time. It is to understand the process, experiment with it and develop your own way of creating.

No previous cyanotype, darkroom or photography experience is required.

What You Will Create
Depending on the workshop you choose, you will create your own photographic cyanotype prints or a collection of experimental wet cyanotype prints using natural materials.
You will leave with original artwork created by yourself and the knowledge and techniques to continue exploring cyanotype beyond the workshop.
